Metrics on Ag-Nutrition

Household panel surveys focused on agriculture collect few, if any, nutrition or anthropometric data. Similarly, nutrition surveys, even those conducted in rural areas, have almost no data that can inform us about agricultural practices of sample households.

TCI has looked to advance a set of activities, including an expert consultation for identifying the minimum set of nutrition variables, which can be attached to agricultural, economic and other studies on human behavior or resource management. The outputs of this expert consultation (held in 2013) can be found in our publication Mainstreaming nutrition metrics in household surveys—toward a multidisciplinary convergence of data systems (Pingali & Rickets 2014).
