Madhura Swaminathan

Madhura Swaminathan is a professor of economics at the Indian Statistical Institute, Bengaluru, with a doctorate in economics from the University of Oxford. She has worked on issues of food security, agriculture, poverty, and inequality for over 30 years, has guided over 20 doctoral students, and authored more than 10 books. Her most recent edited volume is titled Women and Work in Rural India (Tulika Books 2020). She was a member of the Government of India’s High-Level Panel on Long-Term Food Security and of the United Nations Committee of Development Policy.
