TCI Alumna Wins Soil Science Award
Fatma Rekik, an alumna of the Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition (TCI), is the recipient of the 2021 Truog Soil Science Outstanding Dissertation Award. Presented by the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), the award recognizes a recent PhD recipient who has made outstanding contributions to soil science as evidenced by their thesis or dissertation.
Rekik is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture in Dubai, UAE. As a TCI scholar, she studied the soil health-human health interlinkages from a nutritional standpoint in Jharkhand, India. In addition to her PhD, Rekik received both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in agricultural science and soil sciences from Cornell University.
The SSSA is a progressive international scientific society that fosters the transfer of knowledge and practices to sustain global soils. The Association’s annual awards are presented for outstanding contributions to soil science through education, national and international service, and research.
